SIMPLE MACHINES

branch MECHANICS (MOTION)

Coming from WORK
=Simple Machines= Simple machines include things like inclined planes, levers, pulleys & gears. These devices help us do things by changing: *the size of the force *the direction of the force *the distance moved Because energy is conserved (it cannot be created or destroyed) the energy input for a simple machine is equal to its energy output. Therefore the work done remains constant. $$W (in) = W (out)$$ While the total work done remains constant the balance between the force and the distance through which it is applied can be altered. Simple machines are either '''''Force Multipliers''''' (they increase the force but reduce the distance) or '''''Distance Multipliers''''' (they increase the distance but reduce the force). $$ F \times d = F \times d$$
