OLD WORLD MONKEYS

=Old World Monkeys= [image:http://i.imgur.com/W06dotxs.png] Old World monkeys are generally larger and walk on top of the tree branches rather than hanging from beneath them. Their brains and social behaviours are much more elaborate than in new world monkeys. Many are partly terrestrial, spending the day on the ground in search for food and returning to the trees at night. While they still have tails they are never prehensile and are only used to aid in balance. Unlike new world monkeys (whose thumb is in line with their other fingers) Old World Monkeys have much more opposable thumbs (sticks out more to the side). [image:http://i.imgur.com/Tw1C2f7.png?2]One of their most distinguishable features is their downwards facing nose with nostrils that are close together and open downwards. They have also developed sitting pads (known as Ischial callosities) as a response to an increasingly upright sitting position. '''Summary''': *Tail not prehensile (just one used for balance) *Partly terrestrial *Ischial callosities (Sitting Pads) *Quadrupedal locomotion (move on all four limbs) *Move on top of tree branches (rather than hanging under them) *Nostrils close together (and open downwards) [image:http://i.imgur.com/l4dgr1Ms.png]
