==Herbivores== [image:http://i.imgur.com/quPyHd4.png?2] A herbivore is any animal that is primarily adapted to eating plant material. Herbivores can play an important part in the food chain as they often have special adaptations that enable them to process large quantities of tough, nutrient poor plant materials such as grass. Plant materials tend to be rich in ''carbohydrates''. About one third of all plant material is cellulose, a carbohydrate that is particularly difficult to digest. Many Herbivores are specially adapted in order to utilise cellulose as an energy source. ==Carnivores== [image:http://i.imgur.com/xR4W15L.png?1] A carnivore is any animal that is primarily adapted to eating meat (animal tissues) Animal tissues are largely comprised of ''protein'' and ''fat''. This has the advantage of being significantly higher in energy. However, carnivores are also faced with the challenge of either having to kill another animal (as is the case for predators) or finding an animal that has already died (as is the case for scavengers) ==Omnivores== [image:http://i.imgur.com/akzVmup.jpg?1] An omnivore is any animal that is adapted to eating foods derived from a variety of sources that may include plants, animals, algae, fungi and bacteria. Omnivores often have features intermediate of both herbivores and carnivores.
