Pure Substances:

A pure substance consists of particles or molecules that are all the same. There are two different types:

Elements:

Pure substances made out of only one type of atom.

Compounds:

Pure substances made of two or more different types of atoms joined together by an electrical force called a chemical bond.

Mixtures

Any substance made up of different molecules.

The air we breathe is a mixture of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (20%), carbon dioxide and other gasses (2%)
