ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION

Firstly glucose is split into half forming two pyruvate molecules. This occurs in the cell cytoplasm and does not require oxygen. If no oxygen is present, '''anaerobic respiration or fermentation''' occurs where the pyruvate is broken down into Lactic Acid or Alcohol and yielding only a little energy (2 ATP).
